INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES FOR STUDENTS AND FACULTY OVERVIEW The Library Instructional Services provides the Libraries’ users skills and knowledge necessary to locate and gather information they need, in order to become efficient, effective users and producers of information. This essential set of abilities will not only give students some of the critical tools necessary for success in their academic careers in school, but also help them prepare for a lifetime of learning. We also provide instructions to faculty members in updating in their skills with the most current technology and information access tools. In the information driven society of the 21st Century, students who graduate from La Salle Zobel School need to be information literate in order to succeed in their professional, personal, and civic lives. In an age of rapid technological change and proliferating resources of varying quality, it is not enough to provide students with access to information. It is essential that students learn not only how to access resources efficiently, but also how to evaluate, manage, and use them effectively. VISION The library resources and services enrich the quality of education at De La Salle Zobel School by enabling learners to select, evaluate and use information to enhance their creativity and knowledge. MISSION The primary mission of the Learning Resource Center is to support the curricular research and instructional needs of the De La Salle Zobel’s students, faculty, administrators and support staff. The Center provides information resources and technologies as well as qualified and service-oriented staff to assist in their use. Through its instructional program, which teachers, students how to become effective users of information and knowledge, the library provides rigorous academic inquiry and lifelong learning. GOALS Introducing library users to and familiarizing them with a variety of information tools and resources available to them, and teaching research skills necessary to effectively apply them. Collaborate with faculty and staff in order to assist in addressing students’ information needs within the context of the academic programs and curriculum. Increasing the recognition and usage of all library programs and services. Provide instruction in information technology tools to faculty and students. On going evaluation and adjustment of methods/content so as to meet the changing needs of library users. INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES Instructional services instruction in identifying, locating, and accessing print and electronic information resources in the DLSZ Libraries and beyond. Librarians and other information professionals are available to assist faculty and students through a range of instructional services : · LIBRARY ORIENTATION The orientation is conducted every 1st Term of the school year to ensure students’ proper orientation on its use of the library. This is done in coordination with English/Reading Department. The orientation includes, among others, organization of the library and the relationship of the unit to the organization, tour of the library, integration research, online system (e.g database, electronic journals and catalog) and other library services. Library orientation is also conducted to new faculty every summer before the start of the school year. It is done in coordination with the Principal and the Personnel Planning Unit Head. · LIBRARY INSTRUCTION Librarians offer a variety of library instruction sessions for students in all levels . These sessions are designed to introduce students to a wide range of electronic and print resources, as well as research strategies for a successful completion of class assignment or projects in the field of study. Faculty members may request a library instruction session for their classes by using the online request form. In order to allow us to prepare for the class, we recommend a minimum of one (1) week notice. · SERVICES FOR FACULTY LIBRARY USERS New and current faculty members are invited to meet the Librarians in their respective subject areas for personal consultations regarding the DLSZ Libraries’ resources and services. Librarians can also assist faculty members in developing research activities and course assignment that support the development of students’ information literacy skills. Likewise, the Audiovisual Center provides hands-on training to teachers, administrators and staff on the use and care of AV equipment. This program would provide staff development and training to help ensure the effective use of the equipment, improve teaching techniques and other strategies. · LIBRARY TOUR A walking tour of the library, covering the building layout, holdings and services. Please use the LRC Reservation form to request a tour. · ONE-ON-ONE OR SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION We provide instruction to individuals or small groups upon request. Please make an appointment with the Reader’s Services Librarians. · COURSE INTEGRATED INSTRUCTION Librarians collaborate with faculty to integrate library and information literacy instruction into subjects that contain, significant research component or that require the use of specialized electronic or Print resources.
