DLSZ LAUNCHES SPORTS EXCELLENCE CAMPAIGN, BIDS GOODBYE TO THE OLD GYM July 02, 2008
Amidst a sea of green and white-clad athletes, students, coaches, faculty and parents, Br. Dennis Magbanua FSC, president of De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) officially opened the 2008 Sports Excellence Campaign on June 26, 2008. Dubbed as the “First Green and White Day” of the school year, the event aims to instill school pride and encourages the pursuit of excellence by the Green Archers.
Br. Dennis emphasized that the aim of the campaign is to foster “teamwork of excellence, friendship and achievement” while Br. Ceci Hojilla FSC, the Lasallian Animator, urged everyone to cheer and support only one team--Team La Salle! At the same event, the DLSZ community bid goodbye to the school’s Gym 1 which will be torn down to give way to a sprawling P60M Sports Pavilion. The two-level sports structure will house a main court with bleachers on both sides; a stage; two practice courts for basketball, volleyball and badminton; male and female lockers, shower and dressing rooms; an indoor track and field oval; and provision for Fencing, Aerobics, Weights and Fitness rooms. It will also be the new home of the Sports Development Office (SDO) and Sports Development Foundation (SDF) office. This massive campus development project is in line with DLSZ’s stronger Sports program on its 30th Anniversary and begins construction on July 2008 with a target completion after a year.DLSZ has produced some of the finest young Filipino athletes. In fact, the DLSZ Junior Green Archers are the University Athletic Association of the Philippines’ (UAAP) Season 70 Champion in Men’s Basketball and Men’s Football while the DLSZ Lady Green Archers are the Women’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) Season 38 Champion in Football, Futsal (Midgets Division), Volleyball (Midgets Division) and Taekwondo (Midgets Division).DLSZ has also produced champions in elementary level Baseball (boys), secondary level Taekwondo (boys) and secondary level Badminton (girls) in the 2008 Palarong Pambansa among others. For more information about the DLSZ Sports Excellence Program, please call Mr. Gideon Diestro, Sports Development Office Coordinator at Tel.
