SEPTEMBER 4 TO OCTOBER 5 IS TEACHERS MONTH
September 04, 2009

“I felt that in some way teaching was the noblest thing that I can do in our country. Working with kids who often times do not have the best teachers, supplies, or the best school.” -Erin Gruwell

There are many differences among teachers around the world but in almost all countries teachers are gelled by one role: guiding children, teens and adults throughout their constant learning process. Students consider them their second parents and hero when they are away from home. Teachers impart priceless knowledge that we bring to eternity. No wonder why Gruwell considered teaching as a noble thing.

In line with this, UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization) inaugurated October 5 as the World Teacher’s Day to publicly show our appreciation for our mentors.

Furthermore, to celebrate teachers here in our country, a Teacher’s Month Campaign (TMC) was conceived in July 2008 by the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI), De La Salle Philippines (DLSP), Philippine Business for Education (PBEd), and Campaigns Social Response (CSR), with the special participation of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the support of key business institutions.

It will be launched once again this year during Metrobank’s 47th anniversary celebrations on September 4, 2009 and will culminate on October 5, the World Teachers’ Day. This year’s celebration is highlighted by the awarding of the Metrobank Foundation Search for Outstanding Teachers (SOT) with the theme, “My Teacher, My Hero”.

TMC aims to support World Teachers’ Day, celebrate the unique role and service that teachers play, revitalize the image of teaching as a vocation, and affirm current and retired Filipino teachers by coordinating a chain of establishments to provide value added service or discounts to teachers.

Show honor and express your gratitude to your teachers. Write them a letter, give them thoughtful gifts or surprise them with a visit. They deserve this month-long special treatment for all their hard work and patience.
